North Arbor Woodworks

Clean lines. Warm wood.

A modern joinery studio building dining tables, floating shelves, and built-ins that look like they grew there.

What we build

Made to measure, made to stay

One studio, one standard. Every piece below is a concept from our demo catalog: drawn for the room it lives in, built once, built right.

Dining Tables

Solid-wood tables with breadboard ends and quiet, honest joinery. The kind of surface a family wears in, not out.

Built-In Shelving

Floor-to-ceiling library walls and alcove units, scribed to your plaster so there is no gap, no trim band-aid.

Floating Vanities & Shelves

Wall-hung pieces with hidden steel, so a two-inch slab of oak appears to hover. No brackets, no visible fixings.

Media Walls

Slatted feature walls and cabinetry that swallow the cables and let the screen sit flush in warm wood.

Wardrobes & Closets

Fitted wardrobes planned around what you actually own, with doors that close the way a good drawer should.

One-Off Commissions

The piece you cannot find anywhere: a window seat, a reading nook, a desk built into an odd corner. Bring the sketch.

The standard

The carpenter your architect recommends

A small studio can hold a higher standard, because every piece that leaves the bench carries the whole name. Three rules, no exceptions.

01
Measured on siteEvery build starts with a site visit, a story pole, and your walls as they actually are. We fit the piece to the room, never the reverse.
02
Joined, not screwedDovetails, mortise and tenon, dados. Fasteners hide where they must; joinery carries the load for the next fifty years.
03
Finished by handHand-sanded through the grits, then hard-wax oil rubbed in and buffed back, so the wood still feels like wood.

Materials palette

Four woods, chosen slowly

We keep a short palette on purpose. Every board is hand-picked at the yard, stickered, and acclimated in the shop before a single cut.

BirchTHE HOUSE WOOD

Pale, even, and quietly Scandinavian. It takes light the way linen does, and it makes small rooms feel bigger.

White OakTHE WORKHORSE

Straight grain and real heft. It wears a matte finish beautifully and shrugs off two decades of dinner parties.

WalnutTHE ANCHOR

Deep chocolate figure for the one piece that grounds a room. We use it sparingly, which is exactly why it works.

AshTHE SLEEPER

Pale like birch but with a bold, open grain that shows its structure. Springy, strong, and criminally underrated.

How a piece happens

Sketch, sample, install

Three visits, no surprises. You approve everything you will see and touch before the first real board is cut.

01

Sketch

We measure your room, listen to how you live in it, and draw the piece to the millimeter. You get a dimensioned drawing, not a vibe.

02

Sample

Before the build, you hold a sample block: your wood, your joint, your finish. If the tone is not right, we adjust it here, where it is cheap.

03

Install

The piece is built complete in the shop, then installed with drop cloths down and a vacuum running. We leave the room cleaner than we found it.
